Biography
A Virginia native, Diego Stine is currently a member of the United States Army Ceremonial Band. Previously, he completed his Bachelor's degree at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, studying with Dr. Aaron Tindall, Dr. Douglas Tornquist, and Norman Pearson. Before joining the Army Band, he pursued additional studies at Zürich University of the Arts under the tutelage of Anne Jelle Visser. From 2013-2019, he was a Youth Fellow in the National Symphony Orchestra, at the time the youngest brass player accepted in its 45-year history. During that time, he studied with Steve Dumaine, David Fedderly, and Seth Cook. While a Fellow, he gave numerous solo, chamber, and orchestral performances at the Kennedy Center and Millennium Stage. He has also been selected as a member of NYO2 and Brass of Peace, with each ensemble performing at Carnegie Hall.
As a soloist, Diego made his debut at the age of 13 for an NSO Family Concert and has since been active in giving recitals and performing at competitions worldwide. In addition, in 2018, he was selected as the first tuba player to win the City of Fairfax Band Young Artist Competition, soloing with the group later that year. He has received an honorable mention in the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra Young Artist Competition, been a semifinalist in the Porcia International Tuba competition, and a finalist in the US Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop Solo Competition.

As a chamber musician, Diego has performed side-by-side with luminaries of the brass world such as Nathaniel Silberschlag, Tine Thing Helseth, David Rejano Cantero, Andrew Bain, the San Francisco Symphony Brass quintet, the U.S. Army Brass Quintet, and the Spanish Brass on both the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and the Colburn School's Chamber Music Society concerts.
Equally comfortable in both orchestral and wind ensemble settings, Diego has performed with the San Diego Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the U.S. Army Orchestra as a guest musician. He has spent two seasons with the Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship Orchestra, serving as brass chamber music coordinator during his second season. He has performed under conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Gianandrea Noseda, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Rossen Milanov, Simone Menezes, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Jahja Ling, Peter Oundjian, Sir Andrew Davis, Ruth Reinhardt, Stéphane Denève, Lionel Bringuier, and Roderick Cox.

Diego has performed in masterclasses for musicians such as Øystein Baadsvik, Roger Bobo, Gene Pokorny, Carol Jantsch, Abel Pereira, Jeffrey Anderson, Jim Self, and Chris Olka. Recently, Diego lectured at Fresno State University on audition preparation.
Diego exclusively plays on tubas made by B&S Markneukirchen.
